Methodology
How we score products
Product scores on this site are editorial assessments, not measurements. This page explains what goes into them and what each band means, so you can weigh a score against your own priorities.

Marketplace scores are separate
Marketplaces (Amazon, Alibaba, Temu, eBay, AliExpress) are scored on five fixed dimensions and that method has not changed — it is documented on the marketplace methodology page. Everything below applies only to individual product reviews.
What a product score is based on
Every recommendation is independently researched using manufacturer specifications, reputable third-party testing and recurring patterns in customer feedback. Unless explicitly stated, we have not personally tested the product.
- Suitability for the stated use case
- Features and specifications
- Practical usefulness
- Ease of use
- Durability evidence
- Important limitations
- Warranty and support
- Value relative to competing products
- Strength and consistency of the available evidence
Each review shows three category-specific scores alongside the overall score. The overall score is not necessarily a simple average of those three — it also reflects limitations, evidence quality and how well the product serves the use case named in its label.
We do not claim mathematical precision and we do not run laboratory testing. Independent editorial assessment—not an Amazon customer rating.

Ratings, prices and testing claims
We do not display Amazon star ratings, review counts or prices, because we have no approved Amazon API integration supplying them. A review is only described as personally tested when the publisher has actually used the product.
We may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page. It does not change what we score or how we score it.
