Is AliExpress Safe? A Buyer's Guide
AliExpress is safe enough for most low and mid-value orders, provided you understand where the protection starts and stops.

Best for: niche parts and rock-bottom prices
What buyer protection covers
Your payment is held in escrow and only released to the seller after you confirm receipt or the protection period ends. Each order has a stated dispute window, usually counted from dispatch, and you can open a dispute inside it for an item that never arrived, arrived damaged, or does not match the listing.
Disputes are decided on evidence. Photographs of the item and the packaging, plus the tracking record, decide most cases. Outcomes are frequently a partial or full refund without returning the item, because return postage across continents often costs more than the goods.
How to read a store before you buy
Store-level data on AliExpress is unusually detailed. Look at how many orders a listing has actually shipped, the store's rating split across item accuracy, communication and dispatch speed, and how long the store has traded. A listing with no order history is not a bargain, it is untested.
Read the recent reviews with photographs and skip the text-only ones. Photo reviews show you the item as it arrives, which is the single most reliable signal on the platform.
Good categories and cautious categories
AliExpress is genuinely excellent for generic goods: electronics components, connectors and cables, repair parts, hobby and 3D-printing supplies, tools and phone accessories. These are made in the same factories that supply retail brands and cost a fraction of retail price.
Be more careful with branded goods, cosmetics, supplements, batteries and anything carrying a safety certification. Not because the platform is hostile to buyers, but because verifying a brand claim at a distance is hard and the downside is not just money.
Practical checklist
Filter for local-warehouse stock when timing matters. Check whether import charges are collected at checkout or on delivery in your country. Keep all communication on the platform so it counts as evidence. Note the dispute deadline the day your order ships, and do not confirm receipt before you have opened the parcel.
